Gun-Toting Boston 12-Year-Old In Stolen Car Driven By Teen Arrested: Police

Youthful innocence did not stop a teen and a child from driving a stolen car and carrying a loaded gun, officials say.

Police responded to a call about a stolen car around 1:50 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23 in the Stratton Street area in Dorchester, the Boston Police Department said. After police arrived, the 12-year-old passenger ditched the car and ran away from police, and was seen tossing aside a gun as he ran. 

Police caught up to the boy, arrested him, and found the discarded gun, a 9 mm loaded with one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine. Police also arrested the 16-year-old driver of the car.

The passenger who dashed away from police is charged with: 

  • Unlawful possession of a firearm,
  • Unlawful possession of ammunition 
  • Unlawful possession of a loaded firearm

The driver of the stolen car is charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. 

Both juveniles will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
